Nothing beats Boveda

At Long Ashes Cigar Club we have one way to keep our cigars perfectly humidified: Boveda.

When I was a cigar novice I found that nothing was more frustrating than having to babysit all of my humidors, checking them weekly if not daily. I was obsessive, annoyed, and -- reminiscing -- my vigilance probably adulterated my initial cigar experience. (I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about.)

Antiquated green sponge in trash, I tried everything: beads, crystals, gel, etc. I had heard about Boveda packs and decided to try them in my personal 100-count humidor. A week later I checked my digital hygrometer: 69%. Perfect.

Fast forward three years and all I use for my personal humidors as well as our club coolidor is Boveda.

Just wanted to share this with all of your cigar enthusiasts who may relate to the anxious state in which I found myself when beginning my cigar humidification journey.

Check out this video -- a humidification grudge match!

Worry- and hassle-free. Boveda.

For more information or purchasing, visit Boveda.com or head over to Twin City Cigars 301 Mill St., Winston-Salem.

Our home away from home: TCCC nearing completion

Long Ashes Cigar Club,

John Anetrella, the visionary behind Winston-Salem's premier cigar lounge, says there we are mere days away from the grand opening of Twin City Cigar Company. Stay tuned for the exact date of this glorious occasion.

Extensive as it gets, the selection of cigars in TCCC's humidor will provide delicious enjoyment for the novice to the aficionado, and everyone in between. John's kept one eye on his humidor, the other on the lounge, and both on what can best serve his members.

Here's a summary of membership:
  1. Members receive a private locker, which includes a humidor, cutter, lighter.
  2. Members are permitted to store and consumer their favorite cigar-pairing beverage in the lounge.
  3. Member lounge is comprised of both smoking rooms; plenty of room for all TCCC members.
  4. Members receive a 5% discount on all purchases.
  5. Member lounges provide plush leather seating, hi-def LCD T.V.s, charging station, & state-of-the-art ventilation.
  6. There is a members-only entrance that allows you to bypass the consumer section of 301.
Private lockers are now keyed and in the process of being personalized
Although TCCC is not (yet) open to the general public, if you need sticks John says that he can take care of you.

Please note: there is no general smoking area inside Twin City Cigars; the entire venue is reserved for members.
Rooms to the left and behind the fireplace are both members-only

For about the cost of roughly $1 per day, you have access to these perks, plus unlimited free handshakes from John. Memberships are paid every six months @ $210. Click here to secure yours online or visit TCCC (aka 301).

See you there soon!

Happy 2013! and Year In Review 2012

Long Ashes Cigar Club,

Happy 2013! We have a lot to look forward to in this new year -- most notably the opening of Twin City Cigars! We'll keep you posted on the progress over there at 301 Mill St.

Furthermore, plod through this winter as we will begin our formal 2013 cigar season when the weather changes.

2012 Year In Review:

Current Members in our LACC contact list: 67

Current gratis cigars for birthdays/special events in our club humidor: 148

Current Likes on our Facebook page: 121

Current Blog page visits: 1,099

We were able to host three more events in 2012 than in 2011. Formal 2012 LACC Events:
  • Scotch and Cigars (River Birch Lodge | May 16th)
  • Torano Master 7x70 Tasting (River Birch Lodge | May 22nd)
  • International Have a Cigar Day & Port Tasting (District Rooftop Bar & Grille| May 31st); this is also where we have our once-a-year optional donation to LACC's humidor
  • 2nd Annual Long Ashes Cigar Club Bash & Charity Raffle (River Birch Lodge | June 23rd)*
  • Wounded Warrior Project x 5 Campaign (District Rooftop Bar & Grille | August 2nd)*
  • Single Malts and Cigars (River Birch Lodge | September 19th)
  • Purdy's Birthday Blowout & Cognac Tasting (River Birch Lodge | October 24th)
  • A Tale of Two Cigars (River Birch Lodge | December 2nd)
*2012 Civic Works:
  • $1,010 for Hospice at our Charity Raffle
  • $370 for Wounded Warrior Project
$1,380 is an outrageous success for a small, nonprofit cigar club. I thank all members who donated to these fundraising campaigns; we'll support these organizations again in 2013.

We must extend tremendous thank yous to Eddie and Reid over at River Birch Lodge for their hospitality of hosting six of our eight cigar nights. So too, we discovered District Rooftop Bar & Grille, and Skip has been more than accommodating to our club. Long Ashes Cigar Club is eager to resume events at both locations in 2013. Again, thank you, guys.

We'd also like to thank Walter and Jason Bowden of Creative Designs. They embroider all of our hats, shirts, and fleeces and do a hell of a job, often without much notice.

And extraordinary gratitude is certainly owed to all of the cigar manufacturers and local companies who supported -- and continue to support -- Long Ashes Cigar Club and our events. We encourage you to consider these brands and locations when making your purchases.

In 2013 we will continue to adhere to our promise that attendance at all LACC herfs will be free, with optional paid participation in any of our event themes.

And our motto: It's not about the cigar; it's about the camaraderie, the generosity, the brotherhood that comes from a cigar family and enjoyment of this glorious pastime.

Again, thank you to the most important part of Long Ashes Cigar Club: you.

Sincerely,
M. Kittner

Cigar Season 2012 . . . it's a wrap!

Long Ashes Cigar Club,

Thank you for another sensational cigar season! We not only added many new faces to the club, but also hosted more events and raised more charitable contributions this year than in any past: more than $1,300!

We wrapped up the year on a beautiful afternoon this past Sunday with our Tale of Two Cigars event, an event in which nearly a third of the club enjoyed good conversation among good friends.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, and thank you for being part of Long Ashes Cigar Club.

A Tale of Two Cigars

Mark those calendars and join us for our final organized event before winter settles in. We will all be at River Birch Lodge (3324 Robinhood Rd. Winston-Salem) on Sunday, Dec. 2nd from 2:00-4:00 for our last herf: A Tale of Two Cigars!
We will put head-to-head two premium cigars. One of your cigars will be the new ROMEO from Altadis U.S.A. Your second cigar, however, will remain a mystery until Dec. 2. Those members and guests who participate will also receive a humidified Boveda bag and a cigar rating card. Price is $5.

Please remember that -- due to limited seating -- you and your guests must RSVP so I know how many A Tale of Two Cigars bags to put together. You are welcome to join fellow members and guest for lunch prior to or dinner after the event.
Even if you have not attended one of our events in the past, you are welcome to join fellow cigar lovers of Long Ashes Cigar Club | Winston-Salem.
